As things currently stand at the times of writing the Brexit easements introduced by the government will be coming to an end (or some of them will) by the end of this Year.
You can be forgiven for thinking all the new rules and regulations had now happened (not quite yet!) The main change will be the requirement for FULL IMPORT declarations at the frontier and the introduction of the GVMS (goods vehicle movement service). This will mean for RoRo i.e. goods coming in via truck into Dover and the Channel Tunnel, import entries will need to be completed before the Truck arrives at the border. If the declaration has not been completed the Haulier will not be allowed to enter Calais.
This will mean that in order to do a Full Import declaration we will need all the paperwork prior to the truck being loaded in the EU. Otherwise its likely that freight will not be collected.
One way that businesses could mitigate the impact is to apply for CFSP (Customs Freight Simplified Procedures). This is a lengthy application which needs to be approved by HMRC, The major benefit of CFSP is that import declarations can be delayed until after they have arrived in the UK. Meaning that freight can be collected and delays mitigated.
