HMRC has re-launched its grant scheme for businesses preparing for Brexit – £50 million is now available. For most businesses involved in International Trade the Training grant could be really beneficial to you. Our Sister Company Hooper and Co is already working with several businesses in order to help them prepare for Brexit. Depending on the size of the business and the complexity of their supply chain the work we are doing involves:
• Identifying and analysing the supply chains of the business
• Reviewing supply chains against the new Border Operating Model of Brexit i.e. how is the shipments going to get from A-B and what are the new procedures that need to be administered
• Looking at the additional costs, duties, taxes and invisible tariffs that may need to be added
• Examining the Rules of Origin
• Understanding how Incoterms may affect shipments i.e why EXW and DDP could be extremely problematic
• What needs to be communicated to Suppliers and Customers in the EU in order to ensure supply chains are not disrupted.
• Communication with the Transport Company
• The impact on Non EU trade – where a EU free trade agreement is being used.
• Trade with Northern Ireland.
There are lots of other issues businesses need to be aware of and the above issues will all be important regardless of whether there is a Deal or not as the UK is leaving the EU Customs Union and Single Market and this starts on Jan 1st 2021
